Sunday Morning Thoughts
The new pope says we need to return to God to solve the problems of a "desert of pain and poverty." And the actual problem is inherent in this statement -- most people feel they have found God, but that no one else has. Most people feel their path is the "right and true" one and everyone else has it wrong. Everyone else is either worshipping a false God or they're "deficient" or they're fooling themselves. The problem isn't that we need to return to God. The problem is that we need to embrace that there are many, many ways to do it. If we did that, maybe people wouldn't feel so guilt-ridden about religion and would find a way to spiritually connect with the divine. But I'm just a liberal relativist. What the bleep do I know?
