Awe, poor Gab. We lost Icky on our trip from Phx to Flag at a rest stop. Then from Flag to Seattle, we made it in one piece with Chester, but he ran away three days before Christmas 1997 from our townhouse in Lynnwood. Savannah fell apart earlier this summer after Melvin decided to take an extended vacation. Our cats are indoor/outdoor, but after I didn't hear him meowing outside the sliding glass door for two days, I feared the worst. Six weeks later, he decides to come home, and hasn't been gone for more than a few hours since. My only thought about the difference in behavior is that Icky and Chester were indoor cats, and once presented with wide open spaces, they didn't have the know-how. Melvin, on the other hand, can hold his own, he gets to go out whenever he wants and he knows where the food is (if he doesn't feel like catching it himself). The other point being that moving is traumatic on animals. I sure hope your cat comes back. You might see about calling local shelters to have a look. *hugs to Gab*

I can ask my dad about the pigeon thing. If I'm not mistaken, he covered the eaves in chicken wire or something so they can't roost there. It doesn't hurt them, you just put it up there (after shooing them away) and they can't come back. I'll double check to make sure. And I'm terribly sorry about Gab's cat. My cousin Caitlin's cat disappeared not long after we had to give away her litter of kittens and Caitlin was devastated. *Hugs*

I remember when you lost Icky. Not only is Rosie an indoor cat, she has been declawed to protect Jasmine from infection. ::sigh:: Jeff did check with the shelters who didn't have her, but also told him they hadn't cleaned up any deceased kitties fitting her description, so that's something. Unfortunately, if she decided to come back after six weeks, we wouldn't be there.

Thanks for that advice, cat -- I'll be sure to send Jeff up the extension ladder with some chicken wire as soon as he gets back!
