It's hard for me to put Bush's face on this because of the events that happened that day. The panic calls from parents wanting to come pick up their kids, the Male Mentor standing next to me as one of the buildings came down and saying "My cousin's in that building". I agree it is just wrong to use that as his excuse for everything. They are not excuses, they are lives.

P.S. Grab a tissue and check out the sight Heather shared. It is a great tribute to all the heroes of that day and Rich should be proud of the work he did on this. It took a bit for it to load on my computer but it was WELL worth the wait. Heather if you see this, tell Rich thank you for sharing this.

For what it's worth, I can definitely understand the dislike of the political side of 9/11... I have a strong reaction to it as well, which is why I avoid most of the media exposure to it myself. The tragedy of the event has been cheapened somewhat by politicians using it for their own ends, and by commercial attempts to make money from it (i.e. Wal-Mart). Frankly, it sickens me. If there's one thing that should be free of commercialism and politics, it is this. Unfortunately, there are many who will stoop to the lowest depths to meet their ends. On the other hand, there are lots of genuine expressions of grief, loss, and hope out there that have stemmed from 9/11. It is one of the most tragic, and most important, events of our time, and remembering it in your own way, finding what it means to you, is appropriate and relevant. I was surprised to find, yesterday, by accident, that it's even relevant to do so in a science-fiction novel set over a thousand years in the future. You can search the web and find all sorts of apolitical, genuine expressions of what 9/11 means to people. One documentary I've seen, simply called "9|11", is also quite good and is available on DVD for rent or purchase. The filmmakers in this case seemed to not have a particular agenda, but just let their part of the story tell itself. Pretty moving stuff. For what it's worth. nygypsy, thank you for the kind words. They mean a lot to me.

One other note, which I just heard about... this struck me as a particularly thoughtful (and again, apolitical) tribute to 9/11, done by some local artists this year. Makes me proud to be in Seattle. http://www.artbyfire.com/9-11Floats.htm

I don't have a television anymore and I didn't bother to read the news on the net two days ago. I had enough of the media blitz on September 11, 2001 to have to relive it three years later. Good to know that there are people in the US who haven't been taken in by it all.
