Because perfectionists always set the bar higher for themselves than they do other people, therefore thinking they're somehow special and giving themselves a place in the universe they don't deserve. Welcome my fellow club member. :-)

I think youre fantastic. You write every day, you exercise and youve already lost a pound. Thats incredible. Plus youre a mom. Keep up the good work!

I do the same thing to myself, and I don't know why. I will say that I think that you are a great writer. And the exercise thing? I so look up to you for that, you are much more disciplined than myself in that respect. Work out? What the heck is that?

Okay, so you noticed this about yourself and now you're looking at it and thinking...So I'll say, "Fantasic!" for you for now until you say it for yourself.

Because like me, you see the stairs you DIDN'T sweep. The beds and towels you DIDN'T change. The horrible outfit the kid DID wear to school because you were being 'selfish' and writing instead of overseeing every detail. Because like me, you can never acknowledge that anything you do is ever enough. Always too late, too little, too stupid, too useless, too whatever to deserve praise. Why? Beats the shit out of me. If you figure it out let me know, please. ~LA

Because you are a woman, and we never see ourselves as worthy of anything. I enjoy being a girl, don't you? (And by the way, you are doing great. I'm really proud -and jealous- of your progress.)

I had lots of things to say, but everyone beat me to it. But I have one more thing to add. I think that we grow up being taught to be critical of ourselves and supportive of others as well. If we don't criticize ourselves but instead are proud of our achievements we are seen as being arrogant and full of ourselves. But there isn't really anything wrong with celebrating our accomplishments, so you go girl!

I think that people are harder on themselves because they are afraid others won't agree with them if they praise themselves. But you have done a great job, you've surely accomplished more so far this year than I will the whole rest of the year!! I am always saying I should get to the gym or write a story but I never do. So: You go!! That's fantastic! Because you do deserve it. :)

well, we know where the secret buttons are and so they're hard to quiet. let's call them the yeahbut-tons. anyhow, given that the rest of us can more easily find objectivity about you since you're you and not us, let me add a big well deserved pat on the back to this thread. (and time out chair is a great use!)
