Still More Coolness

Boycott DHL!

Have you ever had a day where every little thing that happens seems engineered just to piss you off? It's only quarter to eleven, and I already feel like I'm having that day.

If you ever find yourself faced with a choice of shipping companies -- you know, between, say, FedEx, UPS and DHL, do me a favor and do NOT use DHL. So last year at about this time we reclaimed our house. One of our housesitters had opened an account with DHL to ship items for eBay. The account was under his company's name, but the address was mine. This is important as you will see in a moment. So apparently, he did not pay his bill and DHL kept sending invoices to my house. At some point, he stopped picking up his mail, so I started sending the invoices back to DHL, marked "Not at this address." Imagine my surprise when the invoices started coming in with MY name on them under his company's name!!

I have no idea who authorized the addition of my name, but I DO know it was not me. In fact, when they started calling my house looking for payment, I explained to them, nicely at first and then with increasing annoyance, that the account was not mine and that I had never authorized the use of my name. The last phone call I had with them involved some profanity and an invitation to produce a document with my signature indicating I accepted responsibility for the account. Did they do so? Hell, no. They sent it to a collection agency. Fuckers.

So on this day, which is very close to the anniversary of us coming home from St. Louis, I received a letter from the collection agency. I sent them back a note with this same information -- you know, that the account is not mine, produce something saying I legally accepted responsibility or stop harrassing me, yadda yadda... but I am just fuming that I am still dealing with this bullshit!

So here's the lesson -- don't use DHL, ever, because they're assholes and their customer service is crap (which you might expect from an asshole) and if you have someone house sit, make sure they secure a post office box for their mail and have the phone turned on in their name!
