Still More Coolness

Why River (aka river112) Rocks!

In response to this meme:

Ah, river112... how do I love thee? Let me count the ways...

I met river112 at Diana's Grove back in 2002. I can't even remember the first time we "clicked" but I know my experience student teaching with her in June of that year was probably the beginning of the friendship, which I cherish, even though we don't see each other as much as I would like.

First and foremost, river112 is a fabulous Witch. Her voice in circle -- her drumming -- her very presence is a powerful thing to behold. I don't think I have to "I-reference" that either -- I can't think of a single person who would disagree. Watching her in the center of the circle, building and directing energy, is like watching, well, like watching a river flow. It is natural. It moves things. It creates new pathways.

Her skills as a tarot reader are unrivalled. When river112 reads, she spends a great deal of time talking not just about "what the cards mean," but also about what the images in the cards say to the person she's reading for. I particularly appreciate this because I don't always see what the "conventional" interpretations says I should and she finds a way to weave what I see with that meaning. That's a powerful tool, and one that makes a reading more meaningful.

river112 is one of the best teachers I've had in Reclaiming -- and I've had some really awesome teachers. I find her to be warm and knowledgable, but best of all, human. When I student taught with her, I had the privilege to see this from both sides and do my best to bring those traits into my own teaching. I love that she gives really honest and constructive feedback, and also that she is open to the same.

But really, this is just a listing of her skills. You can get this much by going to River Magic. Let me tell you what I really like.

River has a very wacky sense of humor. She's never met a pirate joke she doesn't like. If I could deliver Cap'n Jack Sparrow to her in a nice red bow, I'd do it in a heartbeat. She's also fond of ribbing me about certain diary entries (like the waxed eyebrows) when she sees me. Her smile is beautiful and contagious.

She walks the talk. She is doing The Work, and doing it every day. River is a priestess -- it's not just a part time hobby or job. Every minute of every day, she seems to not only be doing her own work, but finding ways to help other people do theirs as well. Reading river112's posts is a fabulous road map to putting your spiritual values where your mouth is. It is inspiring and real.

And best of all... river112 gives great hugs. You may never get to experience this, but I do. So neener.

River, aka river112, THIS is why you rock my socks!
