Hell, No! We're Chicken Qabalists! Don't Worry About It!
::tap, tap:: Is this thing on?? I did it -- I finished The Chicken Qabalah of Rabbi Lamed Clifford today. It wasn't hard -- it's such a great read. Thanks so much, Miriam, for suggesting it. This is the first time I've "gotten" the qabalah, and I know it's because it was in simple, humorous English with great analogies. Let's see, specifics... chapter five, "The Ineffable Name of God and the Ark of the Covenant" had me laughing out loud. I think this chapter alone makes the book a must read for anal geeks like myself who get all out of sorts about pronouncing things "the right way." Chapter six's discussion of the four qabalistic worlds and parts of the soul really jived with the stuff I've absorbed from Feri, but putting it together with the tree of life was really mind-blowing, as was the next chapter which had the easiest-to-understand breakdown of the tree of life I've ever read. I actually get it. I think. And the tarot chapter (9)? Fucking fabulous. I totally got some great insight into the cards. Again, Miriam, thanks for shedding that light on that reading I had awhile back. Finally, the concept of a holy guardian angel sure resonated with the concept of a agathos daimon in many ways... anyone else have thoughts about that? If you're at all interested in learning about the qabalah and the tree of life, I highly recommend this book. It's fabulous for beginners... and I imagine entertaining even if you already know a little something. It's a keeper and one that I will happily recommend and loan to anyone interested in knowing a little something about this very fundamental piece of magick. Buy it! (What am I going to do when I come up against a book where the author has no website? Oh no! I'll have to choose a bookstore!)
