We have made it online in Arizona through trials and tribulations and various other hardships. Truly, we have had adventures worthy of the most afflicted westward pioneer. Okay, not really, but here's a sampling of what we've done in the past week: 1 - Drove across five states (for a total of almost 1700 miles) with two dogs who developed diarrhea on the third day. One of them managed to keep their butt glued until he got out of the car. The other didn't. Twice. 2 - Drove with a baby who also decided on day three that she had had quite enough of the car seat, thank you very much, and screeched like a bean sidhe every time we buckled her into it and then for a time after the buckling. Actually, this is MUCH better than I anticipated and could just as easily go into the "things that went well" column. 3 - Had a U-Haul truck that had neither air conditioning (a real bummer when moving southwest in the summer) nor brakes when parked (a real bummer when moving a 24 ft. truck towing a trailer through semi-mountainous states). 4 - Moved into a house that is mid-transition with property management companies and is WELL used. We are missing toilet paper spindles, drain plugs in both full bathrooms, door knobs (?!), mail keys and various other things. The back yard was full of some other dog's desiccated shit and various pieces of debris. Forks and glasses on the patio overhang? What kind of freaks lived here, anyway? Oh yeah, and no refrigerator. I guess the property management company didn't think we needed to know that before our arrival! 5 - Registered Gab at the school that INSISTED on having her shot records (what if we had elected to forego vaccination?) before allowing her into the classroom. The front desk lady was kinda gestapo-like in her fervor for medical records and didn't much care that I had at least remembered to leave Gab's birth certificate in a place I could easily remember and locate. Thank goodness the kind folks at Oakland Elementary were willing to fax their records, which included her vaccination records, to Mesa. 6 - Started my period and only just barely found the product I needed in time. And the kicker? We didn't get the house cleared out or prepped for the market! Jeff flies back on Monday to finish up and then bring his baby, er, truck, home to Arizona. Tomorrow (or maybe even later today if I'm feeling especially spry) I will post all the good things that happened, and maybe a few pictures of our Taco Bell house too. Thanks for all the well wishes. You all are the best.
